BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK
The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has announced that its prosecution of Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, for alleged false assets declaration will restart from June‎ 7 and run until 9 June. The announcement was made in a press statement issued on Thursday and signed by Ibraheem Al-Hassan, CCT’s Head of Public Relations. The statement said the matter will continue with the cross-examination of the principal prosecution witness, Michael Wetkas.

The decision to adjourn to the new dates was sequel to the result of a written request from the lead prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), that Wetkas was scheduled to testify before the Federal High Court, Abuja, on June 1, in another corruption trial involving former Governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido.

The letter dated June 1 was addressed to the Registrar of CCT asking for an adjournment.

The letter indicated that the matter that took Wetkas away from the CCT was earlier adjourned to June 1 for the continuation of cross-examination of Wetkas as a prosecution witness in respect of the high-profile corruption trial of former Jigawa State governor, Lamido.

“We, however, regret to inform the Honorable Tribunal today, as he is billed to testify before the Federal High Court, Abuja, (Ademola J.) “, the statement stated.

The CCT had hinted on Wednesday that ‎the second member of the tribunal had called in sick and could not attend the trial.

Also today, the Court of Appeal in Abuja adjourned till July 18th the hearing of an appeal lodged against the CCT by Saraki.

The statement today tallies with Saharareporters revelation that there was no truth to media reports that Saraki’s trial had been adjourned “indefinitely.”
