Harry Redknapp has ruled himself out of the running for the England job after Hodgson resigned following Monday’s defeat to Iceland.

Gary Neville should not be considered as a viable replacement for Roy Hodgson and should be held partly responsible for England’s failed Euro 2016 campaign, according to Harry Redknapp.

England crashed out at the last-16 stage following a surprise 2-1 defeat to Iceland – a result which led to Hodgson’s resignation shortly after the game.

Gareth Southgate is the bookmakers’ favourite to succeed Hodgson, while Neville is also in the frame, but Redknapp believes the Football Association should not consider either man for the job.

“I’m seeing Gary Neville being made one of the favourites to succeed Hodgson but how the hell can he be considered after the job he did at Valencia?” the former Tottenham boss wrote in a column for the Daily Telegraph.

“He should be culpable, he has never coached proper players and it would just be jobs for the boys if he was to be appointed.

“Gareth Southgate has done a great job with the under-21s but there’s no way he is ready for the challenge of taking on the England team.

“Brendan Rodgers has taken the Celtic job so there’s no chance of that while Eddie Howe is still too young.
“You can count me out – I’ve made it clear how I’d have liked the job in the past but they aren’t going to consider me now.”
