One of our most iconic heroes, Muhammad Ali, 74 is in “grave condition” in a Phoenix-area hospital, NBC News reports.
The boxing legend continues to battle a respiratory condition, but it’s serious, as his family has gathered by his bedside just a day after he had been hospitalized in what was supposed to be just a brief stay. A spokeswoman for his daughter, Laila Ali, said, “Laila’s number one priority is her father’s well-being. She truly appreciates the outpouring of love for her family, as she spends quality time with her dad.”
The Greatest has been battling advanced Parkinson’s Disease for years — an illness that can lead to complications and affect the breathing of patients. He’s been hospitalized before, most recently in 2014 and 2015, but he’s been leading as an active life as he can. In fact, Ali was in the news voicing his political views after GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump suggested banning all Muslims from entering the U.S. Ali, who famously joined the Nation of Islam in 1964, asked for more understanding.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Muhammad Ali and his family.
