Qatar Airways Cargo Adds Belly-Hold Cargo Capacity To Atlanta

Qatar Airways Cargo, the world’s third largest international cargo carrier, has increased its capacity to Atlanta, Georgia, with the launch of daily passenger flights to Atlanta on June 1, 2016.

The introduction of daily wide-body Boeing 777 passenger flights provides additional belly-hold capacity to the cargo carrier’s existing four times weekly freighter services between Doha and Atlanta. The carrier now offers a combined 744 tons of capacity per week on its Doha-Atlanta-Doha route, meeting the robust demand of the destination.

Qatar Airways Cargo currently operates dedicated freighters to six destinations in the Americas: Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Los Angeles and Mexico City, as well as belly-hold cargo space to 13 hubs in the Americas.

“There is enormous potential for growth in the Americas, as our rapid expansion in this market indicates,” said Ulrich Ogiermann, chief officer cargo of Qatar Airways. “We started freighter services to Atlanta in November 2011, and we are excited to now launch passenger flights giving us extra cargo capacity into the world’s busiest airport. Our customers now have access to more capacity in addition to a network of more than 150 destinations via our state-of-the-art hub in Doha as well as innovative solutions for their cargo.”

Atlanta is one of the six destinations in the Americas to which Qatar Airways Cargo operates dedicated freighters.

The airline recently announced the launch of QR Express, a solution to deliver airport-to-airport air freight service for time-critical shipments. QR Express is the latest addition to the cargo airline’s expanding portfolio of specialized services and products, and provides customers with the opportunity to book time-sensitive shipments via a quick and simple system that offers high boarding priority and rapid handling, ensuring speedy delivery of their cargo. Other key features include short and flexible close-outs, quick and dedicated ramp transfer (for express transit), as well as priority loading at origin and unloading at final destination, and speedy retrieval at final destination (approximately 90 minutes).

Qatar Airways Cargo’s portfolio of other products currently includes QR Pharma, QR Fresh, and QR Equine, offering efficiency and compliance in the handling of temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and perishable cargo, as well as professional care and service for the shipment of horses and other live animals. The cargo airline also offers QR Charter, utilizing its most modern fleet of Boeing 777, Airbus A330 and Boeing 747 freighters.
