Former Miss Universe Alicia Machado says she was so thoroughly harassed and humiliated by Donald Trump about her weight that it left her with years of psychological scars, after he called her “Miss Piggy” among other insults. Now that he’s become the republican nominee for President, she’s speaking out about his boorish behavior toward her. She’s also becoming a U.S. citizen just in time to vote against him, prompting a response from Hillary Clinton.
Alicia Machado of Venezuela claims that after being crowned the winner in the Miss Universe pageant, which was owned by Trump at the time, she gained some weight and then suffered his personal wrath because of it. She has the evidence on her side, as there are historical interview clips from that time period which show Trump publicly chastising her while forcing her to exercise in front of news cameras, even suggesting that he might put his own wife through the same humiliation if she ever gained weight.
Machado says she became “very depressed” as a result of Trump’s treatment of her, opining that he is “not a good person.” As it happens, she’s just finished becoming a United States citizen. She hasn’t said that she did it specifically so she could vote against him, but when asked whether she’ll consider voting for him, she simply laughed.
That prompted Hillary Clinton to post a link to the interview in which Machado laid out her criticisms directed at Donald Trump, along with the following message: “Congratulations on becoming a U.S. citizen, Alicia. Enjoy casting that vote.”
